Accessibility enhancements for the shoutbox
#1
Recent changes to the shoutbox, while popular with some members, have resulted in significantly impaired accessibility for a proportion of our users. Thanks to some excellent work (mainly by niflheim), we now have an increasing number of workarounds available for anyone finding the shoutbox hard to read. These workarounds are implemented as scripts that can be installed into your browser using the Stylish extension available for Firefox or Chrome. To use any script, navigate to the Stylish extension, and import (NB import from Mozilla format, not cut and paste) any of the following scripts. Give it a name, save it, return to the shoutbox and see whether it suits your needs.

Simplified shoutbox script

Developed by niflheim, this script removes the graphical elements (avatars, horizontal lines) and reverts to a text only shoutbox in white on black.

High contrast shoutbox script

Some users find the white on black of the above script to induce eye strain after a few minutes. This version (adapted from niflheim's script by yours truly) adopts a yellow on black colour scheme across the shoutbox, a slightly heavier font ("Trebuchet MS" or "Ubuntu") depending on your system's available fonts, a 9.5pt font size and a single line spacing, which I find easier to read (not dissimilar to the previous shoutbox).

Easy read shoutbox script (weighted font, for dyslexia)

Members with dyslexia may be familiar with OpenDyslexic, a (relatively) new open source font created to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. Since we can support that with five minutes' effort (assuming you have the typeface installed on your computer), the following version uses magick's high contrast colour scheme, but adopts the OpenDyslexic font, a 12-point font size and a slightly greater line spacing.

magick's weighted font shoutbox script

Easy read shoutbox script (large print, for visual difficulties)

For those who do not want a weighted font, but would simply like a larger typeface, the following variant uses Verdana (highly regarded for readability) at a 12pt font size.

We would very much welcome user feedback in matters of accessibility. It should also be noted that, once imported into Stylish and applied to the requisite URLs, you can trivially modify the font size for yourself merely by editing the "font-size" line for yourself (and saving the script in Stylish); if this has undesired effects on line spacing, see the "line-height" parameter.

Accordingly, we welcome contributions of anything that may be more suitable to any particular requirement, as well as comments and feedback. Please feel free to export any such contributions in Mozilla format, dump to pastebin and add them here.

Certainly don't want to throw a spanner in the works here, but there's historically an issue with data-sharing with SimilarWeb with this extension.

It is apparently 'anonymous', but it's also enabled by default. There's an opt-out in settings though.
It is proposed to continue research on problems critical to a clarification of the fundamental aspects of the stimulus-response relationship in biological systems. https://youtu.be/lDBRrcMXgsU

Can you PM me with details, as from looking into our implementation this should not be a thing.
